Of late, Online Poker gambling has become very popular. Poker is a skill game. There are many different versions such as Texas Hold’em, 7 Card Stud, Omaha Hi, or Omaha Hi/Lo. Most online poker rooms offer all kinds of poker versions. One can usually play for fun for as long as one like, but there is also the option to play for real money. Poker Rooms are a lot of fun, especially because one is playing live with/against other players online, not against a computer.

Poker is played by millions of people around the world. Thousands play poker in casinos and online. A few thousand win. Hundreds make most of their income from poker. The number of players playing online poker constantly grows, as does the number of cardrooms. Yet online poker gambling is still in its infancy.

Online poker gambling differs in small ways, but is generally similar in big ways. The first thing to understand is that online poker is not the same as brick & mortar casino poker. They are different games. They are just different in key, fundamental ways. Many of the abilities needed to win in casino poker of course also exist in online poker. One still need good starting cards… one still shouldn’t tilt… one still shouldn’t play at a level one can’t afford, and so on.

The biggest problem facing online poker gambling is its legality; on this count the Federal law is clear. Federal statutes are written with phrases like, “Whoever being engaged in the business of betting or wagering… ”or “Whoever conducts, finances, manages, supervises, directs, or owns all or part of an illegal gambling business… ”

A regular player cannot get into trouble with the federal government even if the gambling operation is blatantly illegal, unless he does something to help the business.

Major poker tournaments take place in the USA or Europe 200+ days a year. Entry fees cost from $100 to $25,000 to enter, with anywhere from 50 to 1000+ players

The biggest event in the world of Internet poker took place not online, but in a casino in downtown Las Vegas. As most poker players already know, on May 23, 2003, Chris Moneymaker won the World Series of Poker, and its $2.5 million top prize, at Binion’s Horseshoe Hotel & Casino. So what you say, it really can payoff!!
